This frame has turned out to be a fairly quiet one when it comes to new releases making waves on the Billboard 200, but artists like Dan + Shay, Shawn Mendes and Drake all provide plenty of fodder for those who love the intricacies and the hidden stories present every week on the all-genre tally.
Here are five albums that made big moves on the Billboard 200 chart this week.
No. 4 – Drake – Dark Lane Demo Tapes
Drake might not have been able to claim another No. 1 with his recent release Dark Lane Demo Tapes, but he is still the king of the Billboard 200 in several ways. The rapper’s mixtape slides slightly to No. 4, and impressively, the title is one of five albums from the musician to find space on the ranking, making him the musician with the most charting titles this time around. Drake’s four other charting projects include Scorpion (No. 40), Take Care (No. 109), Views (No. 116) and More Life (No. 147).
It’s not uncommon for Drake to own five or six spots on the Billboard 200 at once, but his dominance remains impressive, especially considering no other artist manages to control four rungs (though several, such as Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd and DaBaby claim three).
No. 80 – Asking Alexandria – Like a House on Fire
This week, brand new releases debut at Nos. 1 and 2 (Future’s High Off Life and Polo G’s The Goat, respectively), but then nothing comes along for a quite a while looking down the chart. In fact, after the runner-up rung, no just-released titles appear until No. 80, which is a relatively uncommon occurrence. Hard rock outfit Asking Alexandria’s latest album Like a House on Fire opens at No. 80, a surprisingly low placement for the group who has charted three top 10s.
No. 107 – Dan + Shay – Dan + Shay
The country duo’s third full-length only ended up peaking at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 (tying the peak of their debut album), but it turned out to be their most successful when looking at singles, so it’s no surprise the set has now lived on the all-genre tally for triple-digit frames. The set, which produced the smashes “Tequila,” “Speechless” and “All to Myself” (all of which broke into the top 40 on the Hot 100), is their first to reach 100 turns on the tally.
No. 114 – Shawn Mendes – Shawn Mendes
As he works on his next album (we can assume), Shawn Mendes’ third full-length, a self-titled effort, continues to chart well, thanks in part to a number of singles, including the massive No. 1 “Senorita.” The project, his third to rule the Billboard 200, has now been going strong on the list for two full years, and it’s his third to make it to that mark.
No. 195 – Fleetwood Mac – Greatest Hits
Released well over three decades ago Greatest Hits is Fleetwood Mac’s most successful compilation of their most beloved songs in the U.S., though its impressive performance still pales in comparison to some of their traditional studio albums. Greatest Hits, currently charting at No. 195, has now spent 150 weeks on the Billboard 200.
