Eminem Music Murdered

In the midst of his re-activated Nick Cannon beef, Eminem has surprise-released a new album, Music To Be Murdered By, the followup to 2018’s Kamikaze. Music To Be Murdered By still finds him bitter about his critics, still finds him being controversial (he makes a passing joke about the bombing at Ariana Grande’s Manchester concert), and still finds him reminding you that he can rap a mile a minute. He also apologizes for his previous Tyler, the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt disses on the song “No Regrets.” At 20 songs, it’s a lot longer than Kamikaze, but like that album, it finds him mostly in hard-hitting rap mode rather than pop songs and ballads mode (though he does have one song with Ed Sheeran and a few ballads, one of which is about mass shootings and one of which is about his father’s recent death). It’s also got guest turns from Young M.A, Anderson .Paak, Q-Tip, Royce da 5’9″, Joell Ortiz, an especially good Black Thought verse, and the late Juice WRLD. And longtime collaborator Dr. Dre provided production or co-production to seven songs.

You can stream the whole album and watch the video for “Darkness” (the ballad about mass shootings) below. The video ends with a message that reads: “When will this end? When enough people care. Register to vote at Vote.gov. Make your voice heard and help change gun laws in America.”
